International Graduate Scheme (IGS)
The IGS is a ‘staying on’ scheme that enables international students who have acquired a bachelor degree or higher qualification in any subject from a recognized UK higher education institution to apply to stay on to work in the UK for up to one year. Therefore, this applies to graduates of Erasmus Mundus programmes at Roehampton University.
Key features of the IGS
Applicants have to apply within one year of successfully completing the programme.
Any degree class (except fail) is eligible.
Eligible graduates are offered a permit granting them to stay in the UK for 12 months to seek work.
The IGS is a transitional route from studying in the UK into skilled work. Extensions of the leave in this category are not permitted and the leave in itself is not a route to settlement.
As the IGS has been set up to allow students to transfer into highly skilled and skilled work, in-country switching into the temporary workers or exchange migrant routes will not be allowed.
To stay in the UK beyond the 12 months granted under the scheme, international graduates will be required to apply and meet the criteria of a suitable employment category, such as the High Skilled Migrant Programme or work permits, both of which are routes to settlement.
Requirements
(i) Applicants must have completed the master’s degree after 1 May 2007 and must apply in the following 12 months.
(ii) Applicants must intend to seek and take work during the period for which leave is granted in this capacity.
(iii) Applicants must be able to maintain and accommodate themselves and any dependants without recourse to public funds.
(iv) Applicants must intend to leave the United Kingdom if, on expiry of their leave under this scheme, they have not been granted leave to remain in the United Kingdom. The IGS cannot be extended beyond 12 months.
(v) Applicants must hold a valid entry clearance for entry in this capacity.
